April 2022 to January 2023 Mechanical Preparations Schedule

Mechanical Engineering is the most fascinating branch to make a career. As it looks so attractive from outside, but from inside this is the toughest & most Competitive branch.

GATE & ESE are two exams which show us the real competition throughout the nation. But if you prepare in the right direction with the best strategy that works for you then you can crack any exam.

10 months are enough for GATE Preparation?

The answer in one word is YES. You just need to analyze a few things and based on your analysis you can make the right strategy that makes your preparation journey smoother.

And this article will tell you what you need to analyze and how you can manage studies in 10 months. If you are a Self-Study aspirant then read it. Coaching students should follow their teachers only.

What do you have to do before starting the preparation of GATE & ESE 2023

Before you start your preparation, just think about what stuff you required for GATE & ESE. I know you are saying Authentic Reference Books or Lectures or Notes, Practice Set & Test series from coaching.

Do you think this is enough?

Actually NO.

There are a few things also which everyone knows but most aspirants never pay attention to it. And that is,

  • Weightage of each subject (Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability, Engineering Mathematics, and Technical subject)
  • Proper Planned Strategy that suits your daily schedule.
  • How much time do you need to prepare the subjects properly?
  • How to Manage Time between Learning, Revision & Test?

The very first thing you should do is to check the Weightage of all Subjects. Well, I’m a Mechanical Engineer and I have done this thing already so you can relax and see the below Image.

You can see the two divisions of subjects below the image, MAJOR, and MINOR.

Right Order to Study Mechanical Subjects

As you understand the subjects-wise weightage then the next step is to make 10 months preparations strategy.

Schedule April 2022 to January 2023

Every aspirant knows that “Before Doing Anything Plan It How to Do” You have to plan the preparation.

Plan every day, week, and month. How you will divide your time between, Learning + Practice + Revision + Test + Analysis.

As you know you have 10 months (April to January). In the month of January & February ESE & GATE respectively are going too held.

First, divide your 10 months into 3 parts. 5 Months, 3 Months, and 2 Months. If you preparing for ESE then you have to learn 8 General Studies (GS) subjects also.

Here you will come to know how to divide time between Technical & GS Subjects.

First 5 Months Preparations Strategy

If you have already given GATE or ESE exams but didn’t qualify. Consider yourself as a new fresh aspirant and start from basic again.

As you know the high weightage of Major subjects. These 5 months are dedicated to them only. If you prepare major subjects first then you can revise them 5-6 times in the next 5 months. And your chances will increase to do better in the final exam.

In April, start with Quantitative Aptitude & Engineering Mathematics together. Give daily 2-3 hours to Aptitude & 2-3 hours to Mathematics. Both are very easy subjects to prepare and they are very helpful when Learning Technical Subjects.

On average 25-30 days are required to cover them. While learning Aptitude & math, make your Unique Handwritten Notes.

Now you may want to know How to prepare Verbal Ability for GATE. The verbal Ability Strategy is a bit different. Some aspirants prepare it and some don’t. You can read it by clicking on “Verbal Ability

After you finish those 2 subjects (Aptitude + Mathematics). Now its time to start the Technical subjects and General Studies.

First, learn SOM from authentic study material, you can opt for Reference Books Coaching Handwritten Notes or YouTube. While learning the subjects highlight the key points so that you can revise only those key points. After completing each chapter practice minimum of 100 questions from the PYQ & Practice Set of any Coaching Institute.

Similarly, cover other subjects as well. But after completing a few subjects another challenge will appear, which is Revision. You have to revise all major subjects 2-3 times in these 5 months only.

While revising subjects you must follow a sequence to grasp the concepts & formulas for a longer time. This article is focused on 10 months strategy thus I have explained the right order in the below article.

What is the Right Pattern of Revision?

Make short notes after a few revisions

If you are preparing for ESE also so read the below paragraph else move to the 3-month planning.

There is a total of 8 general studies subjects which are very long and boring. But you can prepare it by using any coaching institute printed books. First, find the easiest subjects out of those 8 GS.

From June or July start learning those few subjects by reading from the book and highlighting key points. After one reading you need to revise GS within 15-20 days again. GS is very volatile in nature you have to revise it frequently. It will take you 3-4 months only to prepare a few subjects. If you can prepare 4-5 GS subjects then you can score good marks in Paper 1. After learning GS give a few tests in the month of November & December.

How to Prepare ESE Prelims General Studies

First 3 Months Preparations Strategy

From September to November you can cover your Minor + Major subjects.

First of all congratulations to you, for completing 5 months of preparation journey. Till now you have finished the Aptitude, Mathematics & Major Technical subjects. Now moving on further you have to learn minor subjects also along with more revisions of major subjects.

What is the Right time to cover 100 % Syllabus?

Try to cover your 100 % syllabus before December or mid-December. Finishing the syllabus before time doesn’t mean you have to decrease your quality of learning. Take full December also but make your concepts strong via Revision & Practice.

Minor subjects have less weightage in GATE but in ESE they also have huge marks distribution. These 3 months are sufficient to cover other small subjects and revision of these small + big subjects and Tests. You don’t need to give any test in 5 month preparation period as that time your focus is to cover big (Major) subjects.

But now you can give subjects wise test of major subjects. And analyze how you perform if you find your conceptual errors or numerical error then revise that subjects immediately. Give GS test also and find what mistakes you are doing, resolve them on that day and move to revise next subjects.

First 2 Months Preparations Strategy

December & January these 2 months are dedicated to Revisions only + Full-Length Test.

In December don’t learn anything new for ESE as the final exam is in next month. December is totally for GS Test + Revision and Technical Test + Revision.

After the ESE exam, you can now focus fully on the GATE only. But this time you have less load as GS is eliminated. Revise Technical + Test + Analyse Result. If you follow this strategy there are plenty of chances that you can achieve a good rank in both GATE & ESE exams.

Last 2 Months Revision Strategy

Conclusion

GATE (ME) weightage and 10 months preparations strategy has been discussed. But still, we are left with two more things. How much time do you need to prepare the subjects properly? How to Manage Time between Learning, Revision & Test?

If you follow all steps regularly then. YES, there are chances that you will become the GATE Mechanical Engineering Topper. Follow the same Strategy for Mechanical exams like SSC JE, ISRO, DRDO, BARC, etc.

I wish this article gives you some key strategic points for your preparation of GATE & ESE. Share your thought with me via the Comment section below.
