Scientific Revision Strategy for Competition Exam

Effective Revision Strategy based on Scientific Research

The current competition level in exams is very tough. Every aspirant is working hard to achieve their final dreams. To compete with other bright students, you need to revise everything properly. And for that Scientific Approach to Revising the Subjects is discovered.

Hermann Ebbinghaus German Psychologist Scientific Revision Strategy for Competition Exam Effective Method

There was a German Psychologist, Hermann Ebbinghaus. He performs experiments on people to check,

  • Whatever they learn, how much percent of it they retain after some time or in which manner they forget things?
  • Or simply what is the relation between Brain Recall & Total Time passed since Learning?

And after lots of experiments, he finally conclude a “Forgetting Curve”. It tells us about the forgetting behavior of the human brain, after a few hours or days or months. And to Revise Subjects in Scientific Way he creates a “Learning Curve”.

Forgetting Curve

Before we read the Effective Revision Strategy based on Scientific Research. First, we have to know the reasons Why & How we forget things. No, I’m not going to teach you Biology.

Let’s be simple & specific. Our brain has the capacity to store an infinite amount of data in it, till the end of our life. But we don’t use it in the right direction & the correct approach to revise. Thus we start forgetting things.

Let’s understand how our brain starts to forget things after it learns anything by analyzing the below graph between,

Memory Retention vs. Elapsed Time since Learning

Forgetting Curve Hermann Ebbinghaus Scientific Revision Strategy for Competition Exam Most Effective Method

At the instant when we learn a subject we remember 100%. But after 1 hour only 44% of data is stored and 56% of the information we forget. And our brain sends false signals that it remembers everything. If we talk about 1 day later, only 33% of the information is stored in the brain. Like that after 31 days (1 Month later) 80% learned things you forget.

If you don’t revise it with the correct schedule, then you will start to forget 100% of the data after 3-4 months.

The above Percentage is approximate. Different person have different percentage but there will be little difference only

This research is valid for everyone (Students, teachers, or Researchers). You can see that as time passes, our forgetting speed drops. It looks good that we forget things slowly. But from a competitive exam point of view, the starting one-month revisions are very important. Hence to solve this problem of students Learning Curve is created.

Learning Curve

Once you understand the forgetting behavior of our brain now it is easy to solve such a problem. If you teach your brain on a proper schedule regularly then your brain will remember everything forever.

Use Pen & Paper to revise, write each key point or formula. You must include Questions Practice also in each revision process (if required).

  1. Immediate Revision: Just after you learn a subject, revise it within a few hours from your Notes or Book. This immediate revision will help you to remember information (concepts, formulas, or data) for more than 1-2 days. This first revision will take time but it is important.
  2. After 1 Day: After 1 day you need to again revise the subject or those topics. This is your 2nd revision which is also necessary to train the brain to store concepts. Don’t skip any important points. You may feel boring but if you do it now then your further revision becomes easier.
  3. After 1 week: As you have done 2 revisions properly now revise everything 3rd time. You will feel that you remember each point but don’t skip anything as you have to be very strict in your revisions.
  4. After 1 Month: Till not you have learned the subject once and revise it 3 times. Now one more time, again revise it from your Notes or Book. As time passes the gap between two successive revisions increases and your efforts decrease. This 4th revision can be done within 2-3 hours.

Within a month (30 Days), you must revise concepts or subjects at least 4 times

If you follow this scientific method to revise subjects with dedication then 99% chances are there that you won’t forget anything. Those first 4 revisions are most effective to retain concepts for a longer time. After these 4 revisions now you can revise subjects once a month.

There are different types of Revision Strategies also. You can follow Multiple Revision Strategies but those revisions should be done on a proper schedule.

Revision Pattern for Competition Exams

Conclusion

The study is important but revising it is more important for any high-level competition exams. Whenever students learn subjects they face this forgetting issue. To solve such problems this is the Most Effective Scientific Revision Strategy.

Revise subjects by writing them using Pen & Paper. Proper Revision of Subjects as per the given schedule first 4 revisions are essential to retaining knowledge for a longer period. I hope you get some knowledge from this article. Share Your Creative Ideas with Me via the Comment section below.
